Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Sky License, FAA A&P exam preparation, and how our AI-powered platform works.

What is Sky License?

Sky License is an AI-powered web application designed to help Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) students and working mechanics prepare for the FAA A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) certification exams. It covers the three FAA knowledge tests — General, Airframe, and Powerplant — with adaptive difficulty, real exam simulations, and detailed explanations.

Which FAA exams does Sky License cover?

Sky License covers all three FAA mechanic knowledge tests: General (60 questions, 2 hours), Airframe (100 questions, 2 hours), and Powerplant (100 questions, 2 hours). Content is aligned with the FAA Aviation Mechanic Airman Certification Standards (ACS) — AM.I (General), AM.II (Airframe), and AM.III (Powerplant) — and references 14 CFR Parts 43, 65, and 91, FAA Form 337, Airworthiness Directives, and AC 43.13-1B.

How does the AI adaptive difficulty work?

Sky License adjusts question difficulty based on your performance. Score 80% or higher on a set of questions, and the system increases difficulty (EASY → MEDIUM → HARD). Score below 50%, and the difficulty decreases. This ensures you are always studying at the right level to maximize learning efficiency.

Is Sky License available on mobile?

Sky License is a web application optimized for desktop and mobile browsers. You can study anywhere, anytime from your phone, tablet, or computer — no app download required. The responsive design adapts to any screen size.

What is the AI Tutor and how does it work?

The AI Tutor is an interactive chat feature that helps you understand difficult concepts. When you encounter a question you do not understand, you can ask the AI Tutor for a simplified explanation. It uses AI to break down complex A&P topics — from 14 CFR regulations to turbine engine theory — into clear, digestible answers.

What plans are available?

Sky License offers three plans: FREE (the complete FAA General exam — all chapters), PRO MONTHLY ($29.99 per month with full access to all three exams and features), and LIFETIME ($199 one-time payment for permanent access to all current and future content).

How many questions are in the question bank?

Sky License includes a comprehensive question bank of over 2,500 questions covering the General, Airframe, and Powerplant knowledge tests. Questions are scenario-based with FAA regulatory references (14 CFR Parts 43/65/91, AC 43.13-1B, FAA AMT Handbooks). New questions are regularly added and updated to stay aligned with the FAA Aviation Mechanic ACS. FREE users have access to the full General question bank, while paid subscribers get all three exams.

What is covered in the General exam?

The FAA General knowledge test (AM.I) covers the fundamentals every mechanic must master: basic electricity, aircraft drawings, weight & balance, materials and processes, physics, mathematics, FAA regulations (14 CFR Parts 43, 65, and 91), ground operation and servicing, and maintenance forms and records (including FAA Form 337 and Airworthiness Directives). On Sky License, the General exam is included in the Free plan with all chapters and full explanations.

What is covered in the Airframe exam?

The FAA Airframe knowledge test (AM.II) covers airframe structures and systems: metallic and non-metallic structures, hydraulic and pneumatic power systems, landing gear, flight controls, fuel systems, cabin atmosphere and pressurization, fire protection, and aircraft electrical systems. Over 1,200 questions cover airframe repair, troubleshooting, and FAA regulatory requirements.

What is covered in the Powerplant exam?

The FAA Powerplant knowledge test (AM.III) covers engine theory, construction, and operation: reciprocating engines, turbine engines, propellers, fuel metering and fuel systems, ignition and starting systems, lubrication, cooling, exhaust, and engine electrical systems. Over 800 questions cover accepted maintenance practices per the FAA AMT Powerplant Handbook and AC 43.13-1B.

Do I need a separate certificate for General, Airframe, and Powerplant?

No — there is a single FAA mechanic certificate. "General" is not a rating; it is a knowledge test that every candidate must pass. Airframe and Powerplant are the two ratings you can hold (most mechanics earn both, hence "A&P"). You may take the tests in any order, but most candidates start with General, then Airframe, then Powerplant. Sky License covers all three so you can study for the entire certificate on one platform.

Can I track my progress across exams?

Yes, Sky License provides detailed analytics including accuracy by topic, difficulty progression, exam history, and performance trends. This helps you identify weak areas — down to individual ACS subject areas — and focus your study time effectively.

How do I get started?

Visit skylicense.cloud to get started. Create a free account, choose the FREE plan to study the entire FAA General exam, and upgrade to PRO MONTHLY or LIFETIME when you are ready for full access to Airframe and Powerplant.
